Then the {{ref|shape}} is {{ref|stretched|stretch}} through the the forearm “bending” the {{ref|verticality|vertical}} of the hand in the direction of the {{ref|stretching|stretch}}:
As such, the {{ref|shape}} of the facemask is transposed to the hand, which, in turn, is {{ref|stretched|stretch}} through the the forearm which “bends” the {{ref|verticality|vertical}} of {{ref|shape}} in the direction of the {{ref|stretching|stretch}}, as if mutating the {{ref|shape}} of the facemask to make it flow past the {{ref|vertical}} compartmentalization:

Jay Maisel, Damsels wearing face packs posing before panels

The composition <separates>DEF the surface into <convex>DEF regions encompassing each woman. The separation is further accentuated by panels in the background whose upper contour <stretches>DEF <convexity> to the right:

The woman to the right emphasizes <verticality>DEF through the head resting on the hand, the panel behind her head, and the facemask which leaves an open skin area that reflects the hand in <shape>DEF and colour, in contrast to the other facemask which is closed-off around the eyes:

As such, the <shape> of the facemask is transposed to the hand, which, in turn, is <stretched> through the the forearm which “bends” the <verticality> of <shape> in the direction of the <stretching>, as if mutating the <shape> of the facemask to make it flow past the <vertical> compartmentalization:
