This is a definition that is going to be referenced later in the narrative. The context of the definition is the enclosing phrase. The whole context is to be remembered by the reader at every reoccurrence of the defined term. This is key to understanding reconstructions.

If the term is a noun, the use of “the” refers to the original instance. The use of “a” refers to a new instance. The definition can also be referenced through grammatical variants. For example, <simple>DEF is referenced by <simplicity> or even <simplistic>.
