The composition <separates>DEF the surface into <convex>DEF regions encompassing each woman. The separation is further accentuated by panels in the background whose upper contour <stretches>DEF <convexity> to the right:

The woman to the right emphasizes <verticality>DEF through the head resting on the hand, the panel behind her head, and the face pack which leaves an open skin area that reflects the hand in <shape>DEF and colour, in contrast to the other face pack which is closed-off around the eyes:

As such, the <shape> sketched by the face pack is transposed to the hand. The hand, in turn, is <stretched> through the forearm which “bends” the <verticality> of the hand’s <shape> in the direction of the <stretching>, as if mutating the <shape> from the face pack to make it flow past the <vertical> compartmentalization:
