The composition <separates>⁠DEF the surface into <convex>⁠DEF regions encompassing each woman. The separation is further accentuated by panels in the background whose upper contour <stretches>⁠DEF <convexity> to the right:

The woman to the right emphasizes <verticality>⁠DEF through the head resting on the hand, the panel behind her head, and the facemask which leaves an open skin area that reflects the hand in <shape>⁠DEF and colour. Contrast the facemask to the other woman’s facemask closed-off around the eyes:

Then the <shape> is <stretched> through the the forearm “bending” the <verticality> of the hand in the direction of the <stretching>:
